Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) Encoding & Decoding of Band Limited Continuous Signal

Calculations & Observations

Fig.1 Showing Sine wave as input(blue) & PCM-Decoded as output(green).

The step size of the PCM Decoder of a sine wave i.e. of a band limited continuous signal can be find as, We assume that the amplitude of the signal m (t) is confined to the range ( - mp, + mp ). This range (2 mp) is divided into L levels, each of step size δ, given by

Fig.2 Frequency Spectrum of PCM Decoded Band limited wave.

In the Fig.2 i.e. Frequency spectrum of PCM Decoded of Bandlimited continuous signal, you can calculate the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) as 85.71 % & SINAD is -0.60 dB.

The Fundamental power of frequency component is 0.10 & the detected fundamental frequency present is220.05 Hz.

Fig.3 Power Spectrum of Band limited signal.

In fig.3 i.e. parameters of Power Spectrum of Band limited signal are calculated as, the THD is 88.53 % & SINAD is -0.37 dB. The Fundamental frequency component present is 210.69 Hz & the fundamental frequency power is 0.07.
